RECOVERY INSPIRATION OF THE DAY: KATNISS EVERDEEN

Just because someone hasn’t suffered from what you are trying to recover from doesn’t mean that he or she still can’t be an inspiration.  One of my personal number one inspirations has been Katniss Everdeen, from the time I first read The Hunger Games in 2010.  Katniss inspires me for many reasons.  In the beginning of the first book, Katniss has to devote so much time and hard work to get the most meager food.  Food is valuable to her.  And when she gets introduced to the Capitol’s food, she appreciates it and eats it to make her stronger.  She doesn’t worry about calories or body image.  Whenever I have a hard time eating something, I think back to Katniss’s circumstances and try to have her inspire me, even if that sounds silly.  I tell myself, “Katniss would be grateful for this food.  She would enjoy it and be happy that her body is being nourished.”  Sometimes, having the support of my favorite fictional characters is enough to encourage me.  Katniss is also inspirational because she is strong, brave, stubborn, determined, and she gets things done.  She is a trail-blazer and she is an AMAZING person.  She faces so many problems, and she fights against them.  She’s an amazing big sister and an amazing person to look up to.  These are all qualities that I value that my ED and self-harm tamper with.  Once I am recovered, then I can be strong and brave and the best older sister I can be.  Katniss never gave up.  She fed her family for years on her own, fought the Hunger Games, and fought the Capitol.  We should use her as inspiration to keep fighting our own battles, the wars waging inside of us.  We can win and one day be inspirational to other people around us.  <3
